Vance sebere Gibbsovi jeho tým a pověří ho vyšetřováním vlastního případu. V Michiganském jezeru je nalezeno tělo asi padesátiletého muže. Je to Vancův přítel Owens, bývalý boxer. Vydává se tedy do Chicaga, do tělocvičny, kde spolu s Owensem kdysi začínali. Gibbs zatím řeší, zda agent nezneužívá své pravomoci, protože nikde nemůže dohledat, že by mrtvý muž někdy sloužil u námořnictva. Odpovědi na své otázky by mohl najít ve Vancově tajném spisu, který mu jako laskavost daroval agent Trent. Gibbs ale obálku dosud neotevřel a raději vychází z toho, že pokud nastane kontroverzní situace, Vance mu řekne pravdu. Obálka tedy zůstává i nadále zavřená, ale Gibbs je přesvědčený, že kolega má nějaké tajemství.(TV Nova)
